A typical artificial lakeThe latest craze in Bahau is fishing in artificial lakes. On last count, there are no less than five artificial lakes scattered around the outskirt of town. Some 1,000 fishing enthusiasts congregate at the lakes every week. They either engaged in fishing or enter the competitions organized by the vendors.  An eye catching signThe sizes of these lakes are ranging from 30 by 50 meters to 50 by 100 meters, with an average depth of 2.5 to 4 meters. The average entrance fees are about RM20 per. 3 hours. An average of 30 persons spending 3 hours per. day will give an income of about RM16,800 per. week. Little wonder, a few more companies are jumping into the bandwagon. Artificial lakes are mushrooming. Thirty years ago, such a business virtually Fishing enthusiasts in actions unheard of in town. The pollution caused by massive development have a profound effect on the ecology on nature. The myriad varieties of fish once found in the rivers and ponds are gone. Fishing enthusiasts have to resort to fishing in these artificial lakes in order to indulge in this hobby. Progress comes with a price.
