Jeram Panjang RiverJeram Panjang (“Long Cascade” in Malay) comprises of 33 cascades. It is located near Felda Palong 8 about 40 minutes drive from the town. The place was developed in 1971 by the chief who is better known as Tok Batin. The man himself is a legend. He quitted The Malayan Communists Party before giving himself up to the Royal Malayan Police and where he later became a police constable. Later he moved to Jeram Panjang and developed the area. What is unique about the place is that, each and every one of the cascades has a story to tell.

The first cascade, Jeram Panjang has an interesting story. Legend has it that the wealthy and powerful chief of the village realized that his stock of poultry was diminishing gradually. He suspected that something ‘big’ must have eaten hisTok Batin-The one who responsible on the opening of Kampung Jeram Panjang livestock. However, he has no idea what it is and its whereabouts. He found a bellicose warrior in the village by the name of “Selamat” who he thought could help. He warned the warrior that the mission could be lethal but the reward would be most handsome if he could complete the mission. Gladly, the warrior accepted the challenge and swore that he would ferret out the cause of the missing livestock. After some investigation, he discovered a big snake coiled up in a cave which could be the likely culprit. On a night with a full moon, the warrior jumped into the cave and assaulted the big snake. A mortal combat took place in the cave. In a perilous Jeram Panjang River view from another anglemoment, the snake managed to loop round the warrior. Surprisingly, the snake didn’t strangulate the warrior to death, but instead told the warrior that he could be released him and made him a wealthy man, provided he would not disclose its lair. In desperation and much to his relief, the warrior readily agree to the pact and thus save his own neck. However, if he break his word death will befall him.  When Selamat overcame his trepidation he couldn’t contain the excitement of procuring the windfall. He swanked to everyone. Soon the news came to the ears of the chief. Driven by both jealousy and hatred, he set Selamat up. Eventually, Selamat fell into the trap and was forced to reveal the source of his wealth. Little did he remember he was under a curse. Immediately, after he had divulged the habitat of the snake, there was lightning, thunder and forceful winds though the sky is clear. Both the chief and Selamat vanished in thin air and nowhere to be found.
