Sungai Pertemuan is blessed with two rivers, Muar and Jempol River.Rivers play a vital role in transportation. Many places in the world still rely heavily on rivers as a means of transportation. Sungai Pertemuan is blessed with two rivers, the Muar and Jempol River. It is the place where the two rivers meet. Given its strategic location, it became the route for merchants from the east coast and Siam heading towards Malacca. Just about 500 meters away from Sungai Pertemuan is the Serting River. There is a lane, which was used to by the merchants to pull the ships on land, from the Muar River into Serting River to join Pahang River. The Malay called this lane "Jalan Penarikan" literally means "Pull Route".

History revealed that nine families which originated from Pasai, Northern Sumatra settled here. They were mesmerized by the charm of the place. Eventually, they stayed here and named the place Jempol, simply means “the best and the beautiful”. Interestingly, the paddy they grew here produced the highest yield. Besides serving as a hub of transportation in ancient times, the unification of the two rivers has created an ideal place for fishing enthusiasts. It also has a unique fable. Legend has it that, Hang Tuah, the revered Malacca hero made use of the rivers to escape with Tun Teja. They make a stop here, perhaps as a transit and later proceeded to Pahang. For the details of the story, one could read the “Legend of Hang Tuah”. As for now, people who come here to fish will definitely stay for a while.
