40km away from the town, to the north, is a place call Sungai Lui. During WW II,
thousands of unarmed civilians were brutally killed by the Japanese soldiers. A
monument was erected to commemorate these victims. From time to time, hundreds
of Japanese will fly in from Japan, to pay their respects as well as to atone
for the
deplorable act of their ancestors.
