Like a horse, the economy of Bahau has galloped during the late 60s and 70s. It
enjoyed tremendous growth through timber logging and agriculture activities . During the 70s, Bahau
has been dubbed "The Little Golden Town". Crops of tycoons were produced at
that time. However, the economy suffered a hiccup in the mid-80s and
subsequently was crippled by the economic turmoil of the late 90s, which has wounded
the economy of the entire South East Asian nations. With the remedial measures taken by the government, many of the abandoned
projects in the town were revived. The long awaited three-star hotel is in the
pipe-line. It will be located on the hill where the local
municipality was previously sited. A new row of shops has mushroomed up on the northern side of the town. Along Gurney Road, a row of shops will be built
adjoining the old ones. Hopefully the facade of the town will inevitably change
for the better.
