In conjunction with a collaborative project between FRIM and National Institute of Environmental Science (NIES) of Japan, a RM300,000/= Tree-Tower Canopy Walkway System was erected in April 1992. Funded by the Japanese Government, the system consists of three 40m tall free standing towers. The towers are held in place by steel cables and interlinked at a height of 30m by walkways forming a triangle. Each and every station has its own stairway.
While the walkways provide convenient access to the canopy for
phonological observations and faunal studies, the towers on the other hand
are ideal for microclimatic and physiological. [Full story] ......
